Metatron

מטטרון

Also written Meṭaṭron and Methraton.

Metatron towers over the Hekhalot literature as Enoch transformed: servant before the Divine Presence, heavenly scribe and guide through the palaces. Hermetic Qabalah later seats him at Kether, a correspondence with its own later history.

Metatron is not named in the Hebrew Bible. The figure's history and etymology are disputed; the Kether attribution is a separate, much later Hermetic claim.

Historical attestation canonical

Named in rabbinic literature and developed extensively in 3 Enoch, where Enoch recounts his elevation as Metatron.

This early mystical identity is independent of the later Kether attribution.
