Sephirah

Chesed

Right arm, five lines, and the mirror of Gevurah in every one of them. Jewish sources call this the RIGHT arm and the Golden Dawn attributions call it the left, though both draw it on the right of the page — the difference is in the body, not the diagram. The Mother letter Aleph crosses from here to Gevurah on the middle horizontal.

א"ל — the Seventh Gate of Sha'arei Orah. The name belongs to the SEFIRAH and not to any diagram: Gikatilla wrote around 1290, four centuries before this arrangement was printed, and was describing neither this tree nor any other. Gikatilla cites Genesis 21:33 himself, as the name Abraham inherited: 'the quality that our forefather Avraham, peace be upon him, inherited'.

חסד דרועא ימינא. Patach Eliyahu, a passage of Tikkunei Zohar printed in ordinary siddurim, gives the body's right and left: Chesed is the right arm and Gevurah the left. Both diagrams place Chesed on the right side of the page; the Golden Dawn reverses the bodily attribution without moving the sphere. The passage names seven body parts and says nothing of Keter, Chochmah or Binah.
